Sony NWZS545
I was given this as a replacement model because the NWZS639F was broken and discontinued. My experience with the replacement unit and the previous model has been a nightmare both in terms of product quality and customer services. I will not bore you with too much detail but I have not had a reliable MP3 unit since December 2009 when I first contacted Sony . The replacement NWZS545 had a programming error which means the select button cannot work to channge albums or tracks when a song is playing. Sony Central Repaiars told me that this product is not covered by a guarantee and if it breaks down you must return it to the dealer. Because Sony Central Repairs were in efffect the 'dealer' that 'sold' me the product they now demand £71 for a repair!
I repeat that this is the second sony Walkman which has broken down in less than a year. Little did I know that if I exercise my right to ask for a repair, I would be given a replacement model, which was broken on arrival and now they are going to charge me for it as well!
Sony has shown that 1) They cannot manufacture reliable MP3 units in accordance with Section 14 of the Sale of Goods Act 2) They charge expesinive prices for their products and have Zero customer service care.
Having said that, the soud for the s545 was good but the volume is so low that it renders the player pointless on the underground or a busy street. This is the very last time I will buy a Sony product.

I have had this Walkman for a couple of months now and it has suited my needs. I chose this unit based on previous reviews and knowledge of Sony products. I mainly use it for watching iPlayer - it helps to ease the boredom at the gym! The download procedure could not be easier (select "portable devices" under More Downloads, save to desktop then drop & drag into Sony Content Transfer window which automatically opens when you connect the player to the computer - simples!). The picture quality is fantastic. I would have liked a bookmark facility though as you can only return to where you left off in a programme if you have not used another feature in the meantime - this can be frustrating. I use "in ear" headphones and have no issues with volume or quality of sound. For music, the sync facility with Media Player works a treat and also takes the album art across to the Walkman which it doesn't seem to do using simple drop and drag. The picture viewer is also very good. I have not used the radio or record facilities so cannot comment on them. The NWZS544B suits my purpose very well and is a product I would recommend.

Have been very happy with this little player - audio playback quality - ease of use - battery life... plus, not only has it taken some rough handling on the bike commute, but amazingly it has just survived a full wash cycle (when left in my Endura Zyme cycle shorts)! Let it dry out for 24 hours, unpopped the case (quite tricky with fingernails, and all those delicate tabs, the one screw, and a strip of cunning double-sided foam tape) and gave it careful clean - bingo. Nice one Sony.
Agree with some of the niggles mentioned already, would add that annoyingly the volume for playback doesn't go quite high enough: even allowing for some deterioration of the old lugs, replacement earphones, and pushing the graphic up to max as well as the volume, traffic can drown out the more subtle tunes. That aside, I've certainly bonded with this Walkman - highly recommended.

Easy to use; has radio and Photo's as well as my choice of music! only down side is when you set the alarm it switches off and you need to reset the alarm each day. Other than that excellent and easy to use.

I am a Sony fan anyway, so tend to be biased towards their stuff. When my, frankly pants mp3 player died I went straight to the Sony products to see what I could get. Not wanting to spend a fortune I did really well with this. Very light, looks the part - looks much more expensive than I thought it would. Feels pretty solid, though not dropped it yet! Can't comment on the video quality from a download yet as I'm rubbish and did it wrong, but the sound is great through my headphones.
Comes with headphones that are pretty cheap. The sound on the speakers is quite tinny when turned up on full, but then its not a telly.
Generally great useable technology that hopefully won't break as soon as the warranty runs out!!
