Fantastic little thing! August 24, 2010 H. Baker (Isle of Wight) I bought this after much deliberation and am so pleased that I finally caved in and bought it. It is beautiful and shiny and so much fun. The apps are great and I like the fact that I can check emails etc whilst on the move. Also bought and iTrip and being able to listen to my playlists whilst in the car is great.
Well worth the money, plenty of storage and audio books sound great.
iPod touch 64GB August 24, 2010 Robin Benedek (Cotswolds, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought an iPod touch to be able to use its email capabilities. In particular, I wanted to be able to receive emails with attachments from clients, transfer the emails to my laptop to be able to edit them, transfer the edited file(s) back to the iPod touch, attach them to an email and send them back to my client. Unfortunately, trying to do this is fraught with difficulties. The Mail application, compared with Mail on a Macintosh, has been severely hobbled. First, Mail will receive, but often not enable you to read the contents of an email. It will tell you the subject of the email and it may tell you that the whole email has not been downloaded, but clicking upon the button to download the remaining part often has no effect whatsoever. If an attachment to an email is of one of the supported file types, such as a MSWord or pdf file, it will enable you to see the contents, but it will not allow you to save and transfer the file to your laptop. If an attachment has a file type which is not supported, such as a zip file, there is nothing you can do. I naively expected Mail to be similar to that on a Macintosh, with the option to download attachments. It is not.
However, there is a way to achieve my objective and that is with the use of the app ReaddleDoc. Unfortunately, ReaddleDoc has a less than intuitive interface, but even worse, it is severely flawed. The problem is that accessing my pop3 email accounts is a matter of chance. Even though I use exactly the same settings as I use with Mail--and I have no problem accessing my accounts with that--I frequently get an error message. If I then go through a convoluted procedure of changing the settings to IMAP try and save, wait for it to reject that setting, set it back to pop3 and save, I may then be able to access my email accounts. I have contacted Readdle support and they are aware of the problem. Initially they said that an imminent update would solve the problem, but it did not. They subsequently admitted this and told me that the next update would solve the problem.
So there you have it. I can send and receive attachments but only after following a very tedious and time-consuming procedure and because of this, I cannot recommend the iPod touch for emails. A Blackberry would appear to be a better bet.
Good but not perfect August 10, 2010 J. A. Keightley (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was expecting to give this 5 stars before I got it. Let me say straight away that it is a very good product but it has flaws. I am an ex pro photographer and consequently have thousands of photos stored on computer. The i-pod periodically gets in a mess when synching photos through Adobe photoshop. I have found it necessary to synch twice to get the i-pod to get it right, however, it does display photos well. It's a very good MP3 player and docks with my Sony Hi fi very well. The map facility would be good if you could download the UK but it only stores a route that you request. So switch it on somewhere new without wifi connection and its useless. The sat nav in my car is better.
Contacts and calender are average apps nothing special and no 'to do list'
I realise I can download alternatives and I have in some cases but feel somewhat agrieved that for this price Apple couldn't include better quality apps
I also agree with a previous review that itunes is pretty awful software and the app store is equally poor.
Despite all that it's still a very good piece of kit and I am glad I own it and am sure there is currently very little to compete with it. But it isn't perfect.
What a tool... August 9, 2010 ewar1970 Great tool, arrived ahead of planned with no issue from the seller
The wifi is superb and allows you to surf whilst you listen
Makes my old 80gb model look SOOOOOO yesterday!
My daughter has an 8gb model and she finds it as simple to use as i do!
Loads of apps although i do think most are irrelevant and useless unless you spend most of your time doing mindless tasks!
A must to buy are the screen protectors;for the sake of a few quid it could save you buying another unit in a few years time
ipod touch. August 7, 2010 LAP Excellent - enjoy the sound available. Why, though, is the charging unit not compatible with my previous ipod touch?? (Which I dropped in water)
An excellent product - and useful in so many ways.
